I am Dr. Harris, a mathematics faculty member dedicated to advancing Calculus education through evidence-based instructional methods. My teaching philosophy emphasizes the use of research-backed strategies to improve student learning, engagement, and long-term retention of complex mathematical concepts.
I am honored to have received a grant from the National Science Foundation (NSF) through the Historical Black Colleges and Universities Undergraduate Program (HBCU-UP) to enhance mathematics learning experiences. With this support, I have successfully implemented three key evidence-based instructional approaches: web-based learning, Julia coding, and peer-led team learning (PLTL).
Using Julia coding, I developed original Calculus learning materials that have significantly improved my students’ understanding and retention of course content. This innovation contributed to a noticeable increase in the passing rate of my Calculus classes. Committed to open education, I freely share these Julia-based Calculus lessons on this website for educators and institutions to use and adapt.
I welcome questions, feedback, and collaboration to continue improving the learning experience for Calculus students everywhere.

Resources
In this section, you will find Dr. Harris’s recorded video lectures from her live Calculus classes. These sessions are presented unedited and cover full lessons rather than isolated topics, providing an authentic classroom experience and valuable insight into real-time instruction. Additionally, you will find Calculus lessons developed using Julia within Jupyter Notebooks to further support your learning. Calculus I + Julia
Calculus I + Julia Coding
In this section, Dr. Harris thoughtfully incorporates Julia within Jupyter Notebooks to teach essential Calculus concepts. Students find Julia especially helpful, as it allows them to visualize mathematical ideas and engage actively by writing code to solve problems numerically. Among the innovative teaching strategies Dr. Harris has introduced, the integration of Julia coding has proven to be one of the most effective in enriching the learning experience..
